Phew. It’s been one of those days where even the sight of an ice cream cone from @amplehills can’t bring a smile. So. Tired. And tomorrow is the book-release party @fifthhammerbeer! Time for a little whiskey and a little sleep, then a rager of a Sunday party. I hope! If you’re in NYC tomorrow, swing by. It will be F-U-N.
I spent the first 10 years of my writing career reviewing bars, a regular nowhere. Now I embrace being a regular at my corner beer bar, @covenhovennyc, celebrating its fourth anniversary tonight. Per usual, they pulled out all the stops, turning the bar into a vintage video game wonderland outfitted with old consoles and their kids dressed as characters. We swung by on the early side to play Super Mario Brothers. Now that Violet’s home, I’m going to go back and play Super Drunk Dad.
My latest nomination for the most insane sign in all of #Brooklyn. Also: I wonder how many people were in this very spot that the homeowner thought, Enough is enough. I MUST MAKE A SIGN. THAT’LL SHOW ‘EM. THAT IS THE SOLUTION.
When you’re in book-launch mode, you take the promotional opportunities where you can get them. Also: When your partner is out of town, it’s key to have friends watch your kid and let them dance wildly. And then you drink a bourbon barrel-aged triple IPA. And fall asleep and do it all over again.
Today’s weather was a little schizophrenic. Flooding and thunderstorms in the morning chased by afternoon sunshine, the perfect weather for sipping @fbbrewery Sif. It’s a hop-charged table beer, low in alcohol and high in refreshment, perfect alongside a meal or loitering in a playground after grabbing your kid from school. Also: my new summer boat shoes have arrived.
Am I a terrible parent? My most favorite picture from this weekend is this one: me and the abject terror of my daughter, who fears that the photographer, @elowitz, will miss the train. Spoiler alert: he didn’t. Also: ZOMBIES!
Well. That was a day. Dim sum and Saison Day with @allagashbrewing over at @threesbrewing and a park beer and a party and then @brooklynbrewery Beer Mansion and now I’m just tired writing. So: whiskey and bed.
Living that Friday-night dream watching some low-rent Netflix comedy because, well, I’m tired. Before that: dinner paired with parenting and @scofflawbeer Basement, one of Georgia’s shining stars of that dank and juicy IPA scene.
We received our foam fingers for the Homebrew World tour. And they are every bit as amazing and ludicrous as we hoped. If anybody wants, we might be selling these too—if we can figure out how to mail them at the post office. New worlds!
Sunshine? Weather in the 50s? It’s starting to feel like spring in Brooklyn, which means it’s time to scoot around the neighborhood and pose in front of the creepy daycare mural while I tip back @perennialbeer’s Saison de Lis, a farmhouse ale brightened with chamomile flowers. Spring! Street beers! Sunshine!
New Work City, indeed. Spending the night catching up on invoices and bookkeeping and all that glamorous stuff involved in being a freelance writer—like figuring out the per diem rate for Columbus, Ohio. Prior to bookkeeping, I popped over to @covenhovennyc for a quick pint of @fairstatecoop Keller Pils and some Lincoln log action, plus jerk chicken @gladyscaribbean with the @schlaflybeer crew. Work? Play? Accounting? It’s all the same stew. And now back to my regularly scheduled Excel spreadsheets.
